Refurbishment of this former Sanderson wallpaper factory posed many challenges. Location, continued use and accessibility meant that Pexhurst had to devise a complex construction programme that would ensure the successful and timely completion of the project.

The vicinity of other buildings meant that conventional scaffolding could not be used so a cantilevered scaffold was installed along with a large gantry, to allow materials to be craned in.

The project included the complete refurbishment of the building, including three new roofs and low level skylights, partitions, ceilings and a feature staircase, all whilst half the ground floor and wings were still occupied.

Abseilers, suspended from the scaffolding, were used to restore the exterior and lintels and the interior brickwork was sandblasted to create a 'dragons den' effect! The completed project included the refurbishment and installation of new toilet facilities, kitchens, tea points,
electrical works and door entry systems creating a modern, bright and
comfortable office environment.
